Getting Behind the character

As a person who writes star trek RPGs on a regular basis, I believe I know a thing or two about writing with emotion. Since I do write on a regular basis in that avenue, I will tell you that I think as the character most of the time, so I actually write with emotion.  I do the same exact thing when I write my stories that are not star trek RPG related.

So what are the Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Thinking like the Character or characters to write a great story. This is great for great stories as you know what you want out of the story.

Cons

  • You can be moody depending on what you are writing about.
  • Depending on how emotional you have managed to get, you could be crying.
  • There are people who have lost all sense of reality and no idea what is real or not real anymore.

How do you control it?

You do not want to control it all if you really want to create a great story. You want to think as the character if you want to write a believeable character. In my experience, I have found that, that is the easiest way to go. If you start getting emotional, you need to take a step back. If you thing you are the character, you need a reality check.
