Have you heard of Star Wars: The Old Republic? If you have not, please go to the Star Wars, The Old Republic site to check it out. If you don't know what type of game this is other than Star Wars, it is also a MMORPG. MMORPG stands for massive multi-player online role playing game. This game is in its truest sense and MMO.

Beta Testing

This game is scheduled to be released on December 20th, 2011. Before they could do that, they had to have the game beta tested. There were multiple rounds of this type of testing. I was able to get into this last stress test weekend to test the game. I've only tested one other game before launch and that was STO. STO had a lot of problems when it first went into Beta and again when it was released. This game on the other hand, I hardly have had any problems. This game is worth getting.

Classes and Allegiances

There is 8 classes to choose from. 4 are for the Republic side and 4 for the Sith side. Each class has their advantages and disadvantages. Each class has an advanced specialization to where you have a choice between two tracks. There was not much time to really test for most people that did test the game so most people were only able to see a character two.

Storyline

Each character class does have different storylines so even if you roll a different character, you are going a different direction. In most of the game, two type character types start out in a similar location. If you are into PVE, this game is for you as it will keep your interest for a while. As you move along, the game does get harder. Its best to team up when you can.

Team

For teams, you can team up to 3 other people when setting up a team. Even though you may be of another character type like Jedi Knight or Consular. You can do quests together and maybe help each other out.

Guild

You can also create guilds in game. It seems once you hit around level 10 when you get to a certain city. I believe its Coruscant. There is a hall I believe you have to go to start one up.

Companions

As you level up in due time, you will get a companion. Its really based off the character you have. They will help you fight if you ask it to. They will also sometimes want to talk to your character privately. You can also train it like your character can be trained in certain skills. You can also send your companion on assignments for skills you have given them or to sell low level items for you.

Server

There were a wide variety of servers available between Europe and the United States. It was relatively easy to get on. There was a queue once but it did not take to long to get on even with a queue. In addition you have a choice between PVE, PVP and roleplaying. If you want it easy or want to just learn the game without hassle, go PVE.

Simularities to World of Warcraft

I've actually tested out World of Warcraft and I could say that it really was not for me. On the other hand, I feel this is better than World of Warcraft. In concept, this is similar to World of Warcraft, but that is where the similarities end.

It is not World of Warcraft. It is Star Wars. Most MMOs may have similar ways of running things. For one, this is more less hard core in the case of being forgiven if your character dies. Next, the specs you need for this game is way higher than World of Warcraft. Almost any computer can handle World of Warcraft except very obsolete computers probably. The specs for this game are more in line with Star Trek Online but slightly higher than Star Trek online.

Training Skills

As you level up, you do gain skills. In order to gain those skills, you need to go to a skills trainer. There are different skills trainers depending on what class you chose. One place you can get some of your skills trained at is at the Jedi Temple.

Leveling Up

One of the best ways to level up seems to be to just to the quests that are given to you. You can also do side quests that you find along the way. Its also helpful, when you can to have people to team up with to help you out with these quests as it make leveling easier.

Is the Game Worth Getting?

If you like Star Wars and you like a good story, this is the game for you. If you are looking for good space combat, this is not the game for you. This game strongest point really is the ground part more than the space part.

I want to play this for sure, but am not sure if there is a monthly fee. If there is, I will not be getting it. Here's to hoping it's free to play!
