The First Year

Star Trek Online really has come a long way since its release over a year ago. I knew about the game even before it came out and even had preordered it. Even after a year, my interest in Star Trek Online has increased. Some people have lost interest or gave up after the first month. I think part of the reason that I am still interested is because I am part of a very active fleet within STO. There are a few big fleets within STO and then there are plenty of small fleets too. I am part of one of the bigger ones and I am proud to be part of that. I like that because I usually have someone to play with when I am on. There is usually aways something going on.

What They Have Improved This Year

A lot of people say that the game was not ready when it was released. That may be the case, but they have listened to their players. I never expected it to be perfect when it came out. I figured that over time, it will improve. I am sure many of the MMOs out there did not get there the first year. It took time to get to that point, but STO has done a lot over that year and I am sure they will follow that for the second year.

Sector Space - Before, I'd like to say that the sector spaces were colorful as they did not depict a realistic look of sector space. In December they had revamped it to look more realistic.

Crafting - They did not really have anything for crafting when the game was released, but we were able to pick of anomalies. They later added crafting into the game, but it was complicated. Then in December it was revamped with the season 3 update. It was updated to be easier. In my opinion, it is easier as before you would have to find the items and the anomalies. Now all you need is the anomalies. In the previous season update that added rare particle traces which helped with this update as they had added items and now its was not just blues and green items to get. You can also get purple items.

Featured Episodes - There were two series they introduced. They were the Breen and Devidian series.

STFs - These were endgame content. There is a total of 4 of them. They consist of Infected, Cure, Kitomer Accord, andTerradome.

PVP - They included some maps and a private challenge option.  I like the private challenge option for when I get together with my fleet to do some pvp together.  We can also mix our ranks together.

About the Week Event

During the course of February 2nd, 2010, there were events planned. There was a major update the day of the start of the event. On the forums many people complained about it, but there is nothing you can do about. I think it was up a couple hours and they had to shut the server down for maintenance due to a problem they missed.

We all got a visit from Q, who asked trivia questions. You got party poppers and a 8 hour skill boost. I still have some of those on some of my characters. In addition, there were items you could get out of the fountain. There were some really nice items but you had to be quick or someone else may have gotten the items. I actually got two targs out of it. Sadly, I deleted one of the characters that had it.

In all, I think it was a great first year for Star Trek Online.

Yeah it has. I only took two months off from the game. I think I still have one activation card left for people to test out. I can also send out email invites for anyone who is interested in testing out the game. I just have an email address to send them out. I still very much love the game.
