League Bowling
73
Bowling is a fun sport which I have been doing since I was a little kid. I remember a time when I had to bowl in my socks because the bowling shoes were way to small for me. I have always been on the petite side, so that makes sense.
I have been bowling in bowling leagues since I was old enough to bowl in a league. As a kid, they did teach you how to bowl. They didn't teach you any of the advanced bowling techniques like bowling a hook ball. They taught you how to bowl a straight ball. They didn't teach you other options when it comes to bowling like there are other type of balls as where you put your finger joints in a ball. There are conventional, finger tips and semi fingertips.
The kids leagues were always on Saturdays and I bowled over on two different Bowling alleys. One I bowling, from elementary school and other I ended up bowling at from High school on. The second one is where I currently bowl at for the bowling league that I am currently on. The adults leagues, there are more options of when you want to bowl in a leagues. Kids are usually Saturdays during the day and Adults can be at any other time. Mostly they are at night. The current league that I am in, I bowl at 6:30 which takes approximately three hours to finish. In most cases, you finish earlier than that. On top of it all, there is another league after ours. I used to bowl in the league after this one.
Why Are Leagues So Much Fun?
For me they are fun because it can be competitive. It pushing me farther when I am playing with others, plus the fact I can be very competitive myself. I am always striving to do better when it comes to bowling. I am always looking to improve my score. Another great part about bowling leagues is that you get to meet people.
A little More About Leagues
The first couple weeks of bowling are usually more expensive than the rest of the weeks. The first week or two, you ususally have to pay for the sanction fee plus bowling itself. All the leagues that I have been in have always used the USBC for sanctioning. That stands for United States Bowling Congress. Each year, you have to pay for the sanction fee. If you pay for the sanction fee the first week of bowling, then you don't have to worry about paying for it until the next bowling season. Sometimes bowling may be more expensive than actually bowling at open bowling and other times, it may be cheaper to bowl in a league. Still, it is worth bowling in a bowling league. In addition to paying for bowling, there are also bowling pots that you can get into which also costs money to get into. They usually start at one dollar. Depending on the league, you have 50/50, mystery, high score, or ladie's pot for females. No one league is the run the same exact way. This all helps at the end of the season where based off of where your team ends up, how much money you get as a team at the end of the bowling season at a bowling banquet.

Setting Up To Bowling in A league
Most people that bowl in a league have their own shoes and ball. I have both of course. I currently still bowl with my Brunswick zone ball which I have noticed has been retired. Not sure when it did, but its still a great ball. I do plan on buying myself a new ball that has a better hook potential than what my ball has. Its still a great ball and I plan on continuing on using it even after I get a new ball. It is a perfect ball for picking up spares.
Most leagues, a team consists of five people on a team. Sometimes, it can be less but that is the average number of people on a team. If you are bowling on a league, you usually have to have at least two females on a team. You can't have four males and one female or one team with all males and one team that has all females.
In league play compared to open bowl is that you rotate between two lanes between frames. So if you team starts on lane two for the first frame, then in the next frame, you have to go to lane one and so on. You usually bowl a total of three games each bowling night. Usually, bowling night/day is once a week.
