Hubiquette: A Beginners Guide To Using The Forums

By Trekkiemelissa

I may be new to hubpages, but I do know a thing or two about forum ettiquette. I have quite a bit of experience when it comes to forums fom the administrative perspective and from the point of a normal user. If anything, I am pretty comfortable in using forums. Most community based sites do use them though as its a great way to communicate with the community members of the site. In my early years of using forums, I did not speak alot, but as I felt comfortable I did. To this day depending on the community, I either am quiet or I will speak up. It all depends on the situation.

What you can and cannot do!!!

Now that we managed to get down my mini story on hubpages, its time to get down and dirty about what you can and cannot do in the forums. Most of which is common sense. Most of what I do know is from reading and nothing more.

  1. No links internal or external - I can understand the reasons behind this. This could look spammy to others. Some sites allow this and others don't. Hubpages is one that does not allow links in the forums. I not sure if you can ask for permission. If so, that a whole new ballgame.
  2. No spamming - I know its simular to above, but its a bit different as it consists most of the time the links are to multiple links and usually have been distasteful to me.
  3. No flaming - Don't insult or harrass people. That makes for a hostile environment.
  4. Be courtious - If you are nice to someone on the forums, they very much will be nice to you and in exchange will make for an enjoyable time on the forums.
  5. No net Speak - Use full sentences. You got the time so use it. Besides some people may not know netspeak. Either case, it just looks better and shows that you actually have a brain.
  6. Be helpful - I don't think I have to go into this one as everyone should know what that means.
  7. No fighting - Not everyone is going to agree, but please try to keep it civil here.

My Conclusion

If you are kind, helpful and just plain try to get along with everyone, you will have an enjoyable time. I know not everyone is going to agree or like everyone. If you remember these forum etiquettes, you should get along just fine in the forums.

Did you get something out of this?

Every forum has a character based on the people who participate. There are forums in which they just want to sell you things, and others in which they help but with an ulterior motive and still others in which the people are geniuely helpful.

I haven't posted much in the Hubpages forum but whenever I did, I find the people there genuinely wants to help.

Every forum has a character of its own. I learn from watching things. From being on hubpages I have seen that external and most internal links are not allowed. The people are what makes the forums.
