A View into Invision Power Board 3

By

Originally, when i was to create this hub, I was going to make a video for this hub.  I found that it was holding me back and writing up this hub.  In due time, I may add that.  Until then, you get my thoughts into the board.

A Bit About Invision Power Board

Invision Power Board or IPB is the creation of Matt Mecham and Charles Warner. In 2002, they left Iconboard and created Invision Power Board.

My Experience With IPB

I had not been using IPB since 2002 and honestly I had never heard of it until I started Star Trek simming.  So as a user standpoint, I have been using IPB since the 1.3 series.  As a admin standpoint, I have been using IPB since the 2.1 series.  This is also the time that I bought my very first website which I also had gotten from IPB.  That was 2005 I believe.

How IPB Has Changed

Since I have been using IPB for a long time, I have been able to see how it has changed over the years. You can't just stay the same as technology changes and for the better.  IPB is no different.

Beta Testing

With each major release, they do give their customers a chance to beta test their software.  With IPB 3, I have seen how it has improved from Beta to the current version.  I know I had issues installing it when it was in Beta.  By us testing it out, when they released it, people were not having these issue because they fixed it.

The Social Function

In the previous version, they had started adding social functions like the friends list.  In this version, they added facebook to it.

Some Other Cool Features

There is one thing that they did not have in the previous version is that you can actually post in HTML. Previously there was only bbcodes allowed. This opens more doors now.

They also added a reputation system which you can disable or enable. Also you can set it to only positive or have both positive and negative.

One Thing I Don't Like

I like the messenger when it pops up. They renamed it to conversations, but one thing I don't like about it is that you can't upload files like we were able to do in previous versions.
